Choosing the Right Stainless Work Tables & Storage for Your Business
Stainless work tables, sink benches, wall shelves, dishwash benches and combi stands are the structural metalwork of every commercial kitchen. The right pieces match your equipment dimensions exactly, fit the GN sizing of your trays, and stand up to thirty years of trolley impact and chemical wash-down. Hospitality Connect stocks Simply Stainless, Modular, FED, Rieber, Metro and Convotherm stands — covering the everyday widths from 600mm through to 2400mm.
Range overview
- Work benches: 304-grade stainless tops, splashback options, undershelves; 600 and 700 series depths to match equipment.
- Bench-mounted over-shelves: 1, 2 and 3 tier — keep prep tools and small wares at eye level above the bench.
- Wall shelves and pipe shelves: 1200mm, 1500mm, 1800mm and 2400mm spans for above-the-bench storage.
- Sink benches: Single, double centre, double left, double right and triple bowl configurations with splashback.
- Dishwasher inlet/outlet benches: 700 series in 1200, 1500, 1650 and 1800mm — sized for 2 or 3 baskets wide.
- Combi stands: Purpose-built stands for Rational, Convotherm Maxx, Electrolux Professional 10-tray combi ovens.
- GN delivery trolleys: Rieber ZUB 2 and 4 — 11 GN capacity for ward and function service.
Sizing your stainless layout
Standard commercial bench depth is 600mm or 700mm — match across the kitchen so undershelves line up. Combi stands must match the exact tray spacing and width of your oven brand; a Rational stand won't fit a Convotherm correctly. Sink bench widths follow the room width: 1200, 1500, 1800, 2100, 2400mm. Order with splashback unless the bench butts a tiled wall.
Material grades and finishes
- 304-grade stainless: The Australian commercial standard. Resists rust under standard kitchen chemicals.
- 316-grade stainless: For coastal venues, dishwash bays and seafood sections — resists chloride pitting.
- Granite-top benches: Simply Stainless dolomite tops for pastry sections where dough rolling needs a cool, hard surface.
- Galvanised undershelves: Cost-effective for back-of-house storage where the visible surface is the top.

Stainless care and longevity
- Wipe with the grain: Cleaning across the brushed grain shows scratches; with the grain hides them.
- Avoid chlorine on welds: Sodium hypochlorite pits 304 stainless at weld lines. Use chlorine-free sanitisers around joints.
- Don't use steel wool: Iron particles embed in the stainless surface and form rust spots. Use stainless or nylon scourers.
- Re-tighten leg adjusters quarterly: Vibration and trolley impact loosens leg threads; recheck level and torque every three months.
- Touch up scratches with a stainless polish: Don't leave deep scratches — water sits in them and crevice-corrodes the surface over time.
