Aussie Chef Aprons

Chef aprons are typically made from cotton, polyester or a poly-cotton blend. Cotton breathes well in a hot kitchen, polyester resists creasing and dries faster, and a blend balances comfort against durability through repeated commercial laundering.

A bib apron covers the chest and torso, which protects against splashes on the cooking line. A waist apron ties at the waist and covers the legs only, leaving the upper body free for baristas, waiters and bar staff.

A cross-back apron spreads its weight across both shoulders rather than pulling on the neck. Over a long shift that reduces neck and shoulder strain, and there is no neck loop to adjust or catch on equipment.

Longer aprons give more leg coverage and suit the cooking line and the pass, where spills are frequent. Shorter aprons keep clear of the floor and move more freely, which suits tight service areas, bars and table service.

Aprons intended for hospitality are built for repeated washing at commercial temperatures. Always follow the care label on the garment, as fabric blends differ in how they handle high heat and industrial drying.
