Choose disposables on the food, the lid and the waste stream. Hot cups need a lid that seals and a wall that insulates, while cold cups need clarity and a rim a dome lid can grip. Container material decides what it can hold: paper and plant fibre suit hot, oily food, and clear plastic suits cold salads and sides. Decide early whether the venue is aiming for compostable or recyclable packaging, because mixing streams confuses staff and customers. Always order lids and bases together.

Disposables storage and longevity

• Store dry and away from heat: PLA cups warp at storage temperatures above 40°C; keep cartons off concrete floors and away from kitchen exhaust runs.
• FIFO your stock: Plant fibre and PLA have shelf lives of around 12 months in sealed cartons; rotate older stock first.
• Don't break the carton seal early: Once the seal is broken, plant fibre absorbs ambient moisture and can soften.
• Match lid SKU exactly: 80mm and 90mm BioCup rims look similar; the wrong lid wastes a whole carton.
• Compost station signage: Add a clear bin sign — staff and customers need to know which line goes to organics.
