Avanti Mortar & Pestle

A mortar and pestle crushes and grinds whole spices, herbs, garlic and nuts into pastes and rubs. Kitchens use one where a blender would over-process the ingredients or where only a small quantity is needed to order.

Choose the bowl size on the largest quantity you grind in one go. A mini mortar suits a single spice blend made to order, while a larger bowl handles wet pastes and marinades without ingredients climbing over the rim.

Marble is heavy, so the bowl stays still on a bench while you grind, and the surface wipes clean easily. Lighter materials are easier to move and store. The Avanti collection includes marble as well as other finishes.

A rough interior gives the pestle grip, so spices and seeds break down instead of skidding around the bowl. A smoother interior is easier to clean between strongly flavoured ingredients such as garlic and chilli.
