Australian venues are working under increasing single-use plastic bans, council composting expectations and customer demand for plant-based alternatives. Hospitality Connect's disposables range is built around Biopak — the certified compostable and home-compostable line that's accepted across most Australian council green-waste streams — covering BioCups, BioBowls, BioBoard catering trays, plant fibre clamshells, plant fibre plates, PLA cutlery and BioStraws.

Range overview

• BioCups (cold paper and PLA): 90ml ice cream cups through to 700ml smoothie cups; clear PLA tumblers for cold beverages, single wall paper for hot service.
• BioBowls and takeaway bases: Plant fibre and clear RPET bases with matching lids in 360ml, 500ml, 600ml and multi-compartment formats.
• BioBoard catering trays: White and natural board with PLA window lids — for sandwich platters, finger food and corporate catering.
• Cutlery and straws: 16cm wood spoons, 15cm PLA spoons, individually wrapped BioStraws to meet wrapped-product requirements at point of sale.

What to look for

• Certified compostable: Look for AS4736 (commercial compostable) and AS5810 (home compostable) markings — many councils require AS4736 for green-bin acceptance.
• Plant fibre versus PLA: Plant fibre handles hot food and oil better; PLA is clear and presents well for cold beverages and salads.
• Lid compatibility: 90mm-rim cups share lids across the range — order one lid SKU instead of three.
• Carton sizing: Most BioCup ranges are 1000-unit cartons, plant fibre is typically 500. Order in full cartons for trade pricing.

Use cases by venue type

Cafés running daily takeaway need 8oz, 12oz and 16oz cup sizes plus matching sip lids. Caterers serving corporate functions lean on BioBoard trays with lids and PLA cutlery sets. Festival and events kitchens need clamshells and compartment bases that hold sauces without leaking. Speak to the trade desk about pre-printed runs if your branding allows.

Compliance and sustainability notes

From 2023 onward, most Australian states have phased out single-use plastic cutlery, plates and straws. Biopak's PLA, plant fibre and certified compostable lines satisfy state-by-state compliance. Keep a copy of the AS4736 certificate on file for council audits — Biopak product spec sheets carry the certification directly.

Disposables storage and longevity

• Store dry and away from heat: PLA cups warp at storage temperatures above 40°C; keep cartons off concrete floors and away from kitchen exhaust runs.
• FIFO your stock: Plant fibre and PLA have shelf lives of around 12 months in sealed cartons; rotate older stock first.
• Don't break the carton seal early: Once the seal is broken, plant fibre absorbs ambient moisture and can soften.
• Match lid SKU exactly: 80mm and 90mm BioCup rims look similar; the wrong lid wastes a whole carton.
• Compost station signage: Add a clear bin sign — staff and customers need to know which line goes to organics.
