Collection: Commercial Gas Char Grills

Radiants are the default for good reason — consistent heat, no consumable to replace, straightforward cleaning. Lava rock delivers heavier smoke and a more pronounced grilled character, but the rocks need turning and periodic replacement, and they flare more. Water bath models produce the least smoke and are the easiest to clean, which makes them worth considering where ventilation capacity is limited.

Cast iron holds more heat, gives deeper and more defined bar marking, and seasons over time — but it's heavier and will rust if neglected. Stainless is lighter, easier to maintain and won't corrode, with slightly less aggressive marking. Reversible bars with a flat s

Char grills are the heaviest grease and smoke producers on a typical cook line. They must sit under a mechanical exhaust canopy designed to AS 1668.2, and your ventilation contractor needs the gas input rating to size the canopy, filtration and make-up air correctly. An undersized canopy over a char grill fails inspection and fills the room.

Brush the bars down with a grill brush between services while the grill is still hot — this is the single habit that keeps the job manageable. Empty and wash the grease tray daily. Radiants and lava rocks need periodic attention: radiants can be brushed and burned off, while lava rocks should be turned regularly and replaced when they're saturated with fat. Cast iron bars should be re-oiled after cleaning to prevent rust. We stock grill brushes, scrapers and degreasers suited to commercial char grills

Yes, Australia-wide from our Penrith warehouse, with priority options across Sydney and greater NSW. Char grills are heavy, particularly cast iron bar models, so larger units ship on a pallet — let us know about site access and unloading equipment. We don't carry out gas installation, but we can recommend a licensed gasfitter in the Sydney area.
