Chef Shirts

A chef jacket is the traditional double-breasted garment, cut heavier for protection at the stove. A chef shirt is a lighter single-layer alternative, easier to work in through a hot shift and increasingly used in open kitchens and casual venues.

Short sleeves are cooler and are common on a hot line and in warm climates. Long sleeves give more arm cover at the grill, fryer and oven. Many venues run both and let each section choose according to the equipment it works with.
